National Diabetes Week 2022 is on from 10 July to 16 July. This year’s awareness week will focus on the emotional health and well-being of people living with diabetes.
You may also want to check out last year’s National Diabetes Week campaign on diabetes stigma.
We invite you to our National Diabetes Week events:
Join ADEA, the Australian Diabetes Society, and Diabetes Australia for this thought-provoking live panel discussion as we discuss the management of a person with diabetes and significant mental health issues. The panel will discuss what support services are available, the role of a multidisciplinary team, and the impact that small changes to diet and exercise can have on a person’s mental and physical health.
For more information, please see the event flyer.
This presentation explores the differences between diabetes distress, diabetes burnout, and depression. It includes an update of recent related research and tips to inform your clinical practice.
ADEA members can watch it on our Learning Management System.
You may also wish to keep an eye on Diabetes Australia’s website for further materials.
Integration of the emotional aspects of diabetes into routine holistic care is recommended practice, both in Australia and internationally. This webinar explores the evidence supporting these recommendations and provides practical tips about how diabetes educators and other health professionals can integrate the psychological aspects of diabetes into their practice to better support adults living with diabetes.
This practical guide from the NDSS and the Australian Centre of Behavioural Research in Diabetes supports health professionals to identify, address and communicate about emotional health problems during consultations with adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. You can find the resource on the NDSS website.
