Diabetes Nurse Practitioner/ CDE
Diabetes Victoria has recently opened a Diabetes Education clinic. Consultations can be held via telehealth and face to face. I have worked as a CDE with Diabetes Victoria for 15 years. I am an accredited DESMOND (Diabetes Education and Self-management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed) and Smarts facilitator-programs for people living with type 2 diabetes. I have worked as a Diabetes Educator at Peter Mac supporting those living with cancer and have pre-existing diabetes, I have a particular interest in steroid induced diabetes and helping people manage their blood glucose levels whilst having treatment.
I am also in the process of becoming a DAFNE facilitator.
The clinic at the Wonthaggi Miners Dispensary is aimed to provide services additional and complementary to those already exisiting in the area.
Held on a Thursday, it includes both pre-booked consultations (in the morning) and a drop-in clinic (in the afternoon for trouble-shooting or to make an initial contact).
My background is Nursing and Midwifery. I have worked many years (over 20) in a variety of health settings including urban, rural and remote, both public and private. I enjoy providing support and education to women living with diabetes. My special interest and expertise is around Diabetes + Pregnancy. Women planning a pregnancy, during the pregnancy or/and post childbirth. This includes women living with diabetes experiencing fertility challenges and or undergoing bariatric surgery prior to planning a pregnancy. I hope that everyone living with diabetes has the opportunity to connect with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator through their Medical specialists, to fully understand the importance of perinatal planning and ongoing diabetes education and to experience the value of multi-professional, holistic and person centred perinatal diabetes care.
