Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) are the unsung heroes dedicated to empowering individuals living with diabetes on their journey to better health. Passionate and knowledgeable, CDEs are at the forefront of diabetes education and care, providing personalised guidance, education and support to those navigating the complexities of managing diabetes.
The CDE of the Year Award is a prestigious recognition given to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment, innovation and impact in the field of diabetes education and support. This award aims to celebrate those who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of individuals living with diabetes, through education and support.
The awards are run by ADEA with financial support from global research-based pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly.
This year ADEA is pleased to announce the inclusion of three new categories to the CDE of the Year 2024 awards:
CDE of the Year
Recognise and honour the outstanding achievement and contributions of CDEs in the provision of high-quality diabetes education to empower and demonstrate support for people affected by diabetes.
Each state and territory will have a winner and from this group, a national winner will be selected to receive the prestigious Jan Baldwin National CDE of the Year title. State winners will receive a $1000 scholarship. The national Jan Baldwin winner will receive a $5000 scholarship and the opportunity to speak at the 2024 Australasian Diabetes Congress in Perth.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander CDE of the Year
Recognise the achievements of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander CDE for their positive contribution to diabetes management and demonstrate support for people affected by diabetes.
There will be ONE National winner who will receive a $2000 scholarship
Early Career CDE of the Year
Recognising the tremendous and important contributions that early career CDE’s make to those living with diabetes and honouring the important role they play in the future of diabetes education and advancement.
There will be ONE National winner who will receive a $2000 scholarship
People’s Choice CDE of the Year
Recognising excellence in person-centred care, as nominated by people living with diabetes or caring for someone living with diabetes, throughout Australia.
There will be ONE National winner who will receive a $2000 scholarship
Eligibility for nominees
Nominees are the CDEs who are nominated by either their peers or people living with diabetes and carers.
Nominators are those who submit nominations of a CDE for the program.

5. Nominations will be accepted from people living with diabetes and their family, friends and Carers
A distinguished Selection Committee, composed of experts and leaders from various fields, will review and evaluate the nominations. The Selection Committee will be responsible for ensuring a fair and impartial assessment of all nominees.
