19 July 2024—We are thrilled to announce that the Victorian Virtual Diabetes Emergency Service was launched on 18 July.
This innovative service provides timely virtual diabetes specialist care to help prevent and manage diabetes emergencies. This will transform acute diabetes care, helping bridge the diabetes equity gap by making specialist care accessible to all Victorians living with diabetes, regardless of where they live.
ADEA is proud to have been a partner in this project, led by the Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations (ACADI).
Our CEO, Susan Davidson, and Victorian CDEs contributed valuable insights to the development of this service.
People living with diabetes who are experiencing a diabetes emergency — along with health practitioners, aged care workers, disability care workers, and others who are caring for someone who is experiencing a diabetes emergency — can go to the Virtual Diabetes Emergency Service and be triaged to a CDE NP and endocrinologist for advice.
We encourage Victorian CDEs to incorporate this excellent service into their clients’ sick day–management plans.
Other project partners are Abbott, Ambulance Victoria, Austin Health, Diabetes Australia, Diabetes Victoria, Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), and the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED).
