Presentation
The presentation will look at the current problem of increasing Diabetic Keto-acidosis at first presentation of Type 1 Diabetes. It will highlight the importance of early recognition of the 4 main symptoms of hyperglycaemia (4Ts) and the simple diagnostic test available in primary care. It will provide evidence on why this work is so important for the short and long term outcomes for our patients with T1 Diabetes and what the project is doing to tackle this problem.
Speaker
Dr Jason Yates is a paediatric endocrinologist working at The Townsville Hospital and Health Service in Queensland. He trained at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane and has dual qualifications in General Paediatrics. Jason is the chair of the Statewide Type 1 diabetes working group and part of the steering committee for the Statewide Diabetes Clinical network. Jason is the project lead for two statewide projects 1. Diabetes Transition clinics – statewide evidence-based model of care, 2. Prevention of Diabetic Keto-acidosis at first presentation of Type 1 Diabetes.
